Introducing Leisa Hopkins
To get to know our ambassadors we asked them a few questions…read on to discover more about Leisa…
What motivates you to get out on your bike?
A nice calm sunny day is always perfect but having an entry in to an event is good motivation for the less perfect days
Who are your training buddies?
Since moving to Taupo I generally ride solo but always on the look out for new people to ride with.
What name would you give your bike?
I’ve never really thought about naming it
What's your favourite snack while your training?
Nothing too heavy, I like gels and dried apricots
What songs are on your training playlist?
I listen for the traffic but if I’m silly at the end of a ride I’ll sing Bicycle race by Queen to the nearby farm animals
What is your favourite form of exercise other than riding your bike?
Walking/hiking. It’s always nice to be outside going somewhere
When it comes to training, what’s something your brain tries to make you do and you have to will yourself not to do it?
My brain overthinks things, mainly the weather and the hills, so I need to just get out there anyway
If you could go riding with a famous celebrity who would it be?
I’m not sure but I did have the privilege of riding a few kms with Catherine Dixon and Rachael Marsden when I came across them on a training ride. They were riding 18000km around the world on a tandem and set a new Guinness world record for doing so. They made it back to the UK just in time for lockdown.
Do you have any pre or post event traditions or superstitions?
I try and follow the “ nothing new on the day” rule. During the event I definitely have my gel flavours mapped out for where I am (vanilla is good pre Kuratau hill).
What will you reward yourself with when you complete the event?
The achievement of finishing will most likely call for a Chardonnay
