March Recap
March started off with racing at the Track Cycling National Champs. I competed in four events and medalled in each one. But the standout? That had to be the Individual Pursuit. I smashed my own PB from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, clocking in at 3 minutes and 17.8 seconds. I also claimed the national record and became the 2nd fastest pursuiter in the world!
Then, it was off to Hong Kong for the second Track Cycling Nations Cup. One of my teammates got sidelined with an injury, so I got the opportunity to race the Omnium event. We claimed gold in the Team Pursuit, despite one of our team mates struggling with food poisoning just days before. In the Madison event, my team mate Emily and I secured silver, missing out on gold by one point.
In the Omnium I won the Tempo Race, and scored second in the Elimination Race. But my poor result in the Scratch Race made it difficult for me to move up into a medal position in the Points Race, landing me in seventh.
I am now back home in New Zealand until mid-June, focusing on building up my endurance and strength. It's a nice change of pace after a busy 3 months and a change of scenery mostly training on the road before diving back into track as we get closer to the Olympic Games!
