July/August Recap
My biggest learning since the Olympics
Its about the journey, not the destination. I initially struggled to find satisfaction in winning the silver medal because I wanted the gold so badly for myself and my team. But after reflecting on the past three years, I’ve come to realise that it was never really about the medal itself. It was the pursuit of that goal, the journey, the effort, the challenges, that truly mattered. The process of chasing the medal is what makes the experience so meaningful.
What I’ve been up to…
July marked the final month of our build up to the Olympic Games. I had an excellent training camp on the road around Basel with a couple of my teammates, enjoying the freedom of training without staff. This break was mentally refreshing and set me up to feel ready and excited when we met up with the rest of the team in Grenchen for our final track camp. We had some tough training sessions and some vulnerable conversations, which brought us closer as a team and boosted our confidence heading into the Olympics. At the games, we were thrilled with the times we produced and incredibly proud to win silver, making history for New Zealand's women's team pursuit. After the Olympics, I took a well deserved two week holiday in Portugal and Spain with my partner. Now back in New Zealand, I’m preparing for the Track Cycling World Championships in Denmark, where I’m targeting the individual pursuit!
