Taupō region’s Supervolcanics: Tailormade Training Trails

The Supervolcanic Trail Network is a network of over 30 mountain bike trails, catering for riders of all levels, whether you're a full strength thrill-seeking adventurer, a medium trail connoisseur, or a family pack scenic explorer, it's ideal training ground for the Cycle Challenge!

The Taupō region is home to the Supervolcanic Trail Network, mountain biking and nature adventures for all riding levels, and the perfect place to get your Cycle Challenge training on track…well actually, on trail.

There’s no better way to enjoy Taupō’s natural wonderland than from the saddle of a bike. From the bucket-list Great Lake Trails to family-friendly Craters Mountain Bike Park, the Supervolcanics have some of the best mountain biking in Aotearoa with a network of 30 wildly different trails for all kinds of riders.

It’s thanks to something that happened 27,000 years ago which left behind a Supervolcanic playground and a catalogue of memorable moments to savour—hidden waterfalls, exhilarating descents, overnight adventures, nourishing nature, rewarding reveals and Insta-ready backdrops among riding utopia.

Taupō’s riding experiences range from Easy-level (grade 1-2) family and e-bike trails, to Expert-ability (grade 4 and up), adrenaline-packed, advanced mountain bike escapes.

But the majority of rides across the Supervolcanics are Intermediate-level (considered grade 3), for moderate fitness levels and ability—going solo, lovers’ serenades or your cycle squad.

The network features a variety of long and scenic trails such as the Kaimanawa Descent, where a helicopter is the only way to the top! Combine that with our renowned Great Lake Trails and Waikato River Trails which are part of Ngā Haerenga, The New Zealand Cycle Trails Network, and your preparation plan takes shape.

With over 380 km of singletrack riding on the pumice-rich, free-draining soils of the region, year-round riding is calling. It’s the perfect place to get on your bike and get training ahead of the Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge.

We eat mountain biking for breakfast and have transport operators, and MTB services galore to set you up and set you free! All roads point to Taupō and all trails point to adventure. Fail to plan, and plan to trail - as the saying goes?

Let’s get dirty!

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
