Exciting Event Category Choices for 2022

We’re excited to be introducing some exciting changes to our event category choices for 2022 including the all-new Length Of The Lake and Shimano Gravel Grind, as well as our old favourites. Here’s some of the details:

New for 2022:

Shimano Gravel Grind
Let the gravel fly in this 75km adventure which offers course diversity, scenery and a chance to experience parts of Taupō unique to this special course.

Length of the Lake
Taking the place of the previous Half and Quarter Lake events, be a part of history in the inaugural Length of the Lake event which will see you weave your way around the most scenic stretch of the lake from the southern shores back towards the event village in the heart of the Taupō.

Kids Pedal Power Ride
Mums and Dads, cheer on your budding cyclist at our new free of charge Kids Pedal Power ride, in conjunction with Kids Bike Taupō and Pedal Safe. Watch them whizz around our specially designed course that runs on the road (tar sealed surface) right next to our Event Village (no registration needed).

99 Bikes Round the Lake
Take on the challenge of the 99 Bikes Round the Lake, the pillar event of the BDO Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge. 160km of iconic scenery and a ride like no other circumnavigating Great Lake Taupō.

Lakesider
Grab your friends, family and your bike and make a weekend of it. 16km of leisurely riding which offers all the best bits, scenery, atmosphere and a chance to be a part of NZ’s largest cycling event.

2 Lap Enduro
Have you got what it takes to lap Great Lake Taupō not once, but twice in this epic 320km Enduro road race showcasing some of the Central North Island’s most breath-taking scenery?

BDO Huka Challenge
It will challenge you mentally and physically, 85km of single track, free flowing mountain bike tracks taking in some of Taupō’s most iconic tourist spots.

BDO Huka Steamer
The most popular mountain biking event and with good reason, the 60km BDO Huka Steamer is epic, challenging and offers up all the iconic scenery expected from the event.

BDO Huka Teaser
The perfect mountain biking event for those looking to take the plunge into events with a generous dose of fun, atmosphere and excitement, the 30km BDO Huka Teaser ticks all the boxes.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia.
