Recreational Cyclist Heaven. If you are a beginner, recreational cyclist or would just like a shorter distance, the 16km Lakesider is a recreational ride along a lakeside trail, your ideal category at the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
With views of Lake Taupo and the mountains beyond, the picturesque Lakesider is an easy ride of approximately 16 km. Starting at the 2 Mile Bay Reserve, it takes you lakeside along the Lions Walkway before joining back in with other event riders at 5 Mile Bay for the final push into the finish line on Tongariro Street.
This category is ideal for beginners, recreational cyclists or for children who are too old for the Kids Heart ride but not quite yet up to taking on the our longer events. It is also perfect for a supporter who wants to take part in their own cycle ride while their mates or loved ones are participating in one of the other event categories. The course is suitable for mountain bikes, cross bikes or cruisers – whatever you having sitting in the shed. It is not suitable for road bikes. Children under 11 should be accompanied by an adult.
The course is an achievable, easy contour, scenic and mostly off road course.
