These challenges are based around either a quarter, full or 2 laps of the iconic Bike Barn Round the Lake road event at the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge. The course has been ridden by over two hundred thousand avid cyclists over its 43 year history, and circumnavigates the pristine waters of Australasia’s largest lake, Lake Taupo. It hosts some of New Zealand’s most picturesque vistas and is one of the most stunning road cycling courses in the world.
Although most of you won’t actually get to experience these beautiful vistas in person during the Pedal to Plant Virtual Challenge, we want to make your ride count. For every Pedal to Plant Virtual Challenge entry, in conjunction with Greening Taupo, we’ll plant a tree on your behalf in an area around Taupo that’s going to be allocated specifically to the Pedal to Plant Virtual Challenge. It’s a small way we can all help to support our communities at a time where they need us more than ever, as well as making a worthy contribution to the environment.
At the end of the challenge, we’ll email you a certificate to proudly display.
And let’s have some fun with this. We’d love to hear from you during the challenge. Maybe make up your own race bib and post a photo of it on our Facebook page. Why not dress up for the ride and share it with us, or even post a pic of you doing your ride with some great scenery around you….
Set yourself the challenge of your choice, enter before midnight Thursday May 14 and get riding, either in the real world or virtually on the likes of Zwift.
How it works:
Simply keep a track of your activity via Strava, ridewithGPS, mapmyride or any other tracking APP and upload your distance and time to the Event Plus platform. At the end of each day, enter your distance and time data into your registration results section.
You can enter your distances a maximum of 10 times over the period of the challenge, so even if you ride twice in one day just add up your total distance and time for that day and enter that information into your results.
How to up load your results
1.) Log back into your registration, this will take you to your registration summary page.
2.) Click on Upload Now.
3.) Enter the distance ridden and the time it took you. You can also upload a screen shot of ride information or a photo from your ride. Please remember if you gave us permission to use photos we may use this in our social media.
And if you’re on Strava, please add yourself to the hundreds already on the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge Training Club as well.
Please do ensure you adhere to government Covid-19 guidelines that apply to your country of residence at all times.
Set yourself the challenge of your choice and get riding.
Cost of entry for the Pedal to Plant Virtual Challenge is $20.00 and remember a big chunk of your entry fee will be donating a tree to Greening Taupo.
