Each week in New Zealand 12 babies are born with a heart defect or CHD (Congenital Heart Disease).  It is the most common serious birth defect and the number one cause of death in infants and babies.  Heart Kids supports these children and their families through life, providing services in the hospital and out in the community.

A baby with CHD can have surgery within days or hours of being born. It will be the start of many procedures, treatments and also open-heart surgeries during their life. In fact, there are 550 major heart surgeries performed on heart kids every single year.

Heart Kids has been there for these families for over 30 years walking alongside them every step of the way.  It receives no government funding and relies solely on grants and donations.

Your fundraising efforts will make a difference to families like Leyton’s (pictured above), his mum Claire shares part of their journey:

“Life as a heart mum is worrying, stressful, sad, frightening and just downright hard at times. Heart Kids have been there for us every step of the way, from the bleak desperate moments through to the good times. They've often been the smile on Lleyton's face on a hard day when he opens the gift pack they've given, and my sigh of relief as they've shown up with a coffee. I have been so blessed and thankful for the support we have received from them - the coffee groups, the connections and friendships made, the family events, the care packs, the travel assistance but most importantly the emotional support that no amount of money could ever buy.”
