Helping Heart Kids
Heart Kids NZ is the Official Charity of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
Each week in New Zealand 12 babies are born with one or more heart defects, their little hearts literally are broken. Each week, Heart Kids Family Support staff are out in the community and at the National Children’s Hospital providing support and services to these children and their families.
A heart baby can have surgery within days or hours of being born. It will be the start of many procedures, treatments and also open heart surgeries during their life. In fact, there are 550 major heart surgeries performed on heart kids every single year. That’s more than one heart child having surgery every day.
Heart Kids have been there for these families for over 30 years, the only organisation in New Zealand to provide support for heart kids through life. We’ll be there providing support groups, one to one visits, specialised camps, resource material, helping teenagers transition from paediatric to adult hospital services and keeping families together.
But we can’t do it without help from awesome people like you.
